Having spent months training, attending competitions, and generally working hard, sophomore Grayson Morris and juniors Ethan Garza and Michael Sifuentes advanced to state, attending the Powerlifting Championship Meet in Abilene, Texas, an event that features students from across Texas, giving them the opportunity to compete and win.
“I first found out I qualified for state when I qualified to go to regionals, and I realized I reached my totals at that meet,” Morris said. “I was pretty excited to go to state and travel to Abilene.”
After arriving at the competition, the students felt a mix of excitement and nerves, knowing that they would have to put forward their best effort.
“The state experience was crazy, nothing like regionals, the whole energy in the building was super positive,” junior Ethan Garza said.
After months of dedication, hard work, and overcoming challenges, students were awarded for their skills, representing the school with their impressive finish. Morris placed 10th overall in his weight class, and Sifuentes placed 15th.
“I came in ranked 15th in the state for the 181 class, which was an amazing feeling,” Sifuentes said. “I really hope I can qualify again for state next year.”
