This weekend, Brazoswood’s Student Council will be taking a group of 15 students to Arlington, Texas for their Texas State Student Council convention. At this convention, students will make connections and learn about new things to bring to their campus, taught to them by the other attending councils.
“State Convention is when my top 15 students are eligible based on the points they’ve earned through the year, we meet about 4,000 other Student Council members and they get to make connections and see what other campuses are doing,” Student Council Teacher Stephanie Jess said.
Students look forward to this trip every year to learn new skills and create new friendships across the state through many table talks and general sessions, where they get information from other students, schools, and councils.
“I plan to attend a bunch of general sessions where we learn more about motivational speeches and see what other schools have to offer,” senior Tate Currier said.
Along with learning new skills, students from Brazoswood’s Student Council are teaching them as well, presenting to talk on the school’s behalf to bring improvement to other schools and their councils.
“I’ve liked presenting with a partner these past three years, we present to other schools and share our ideas,” Currier said.
Students work hard to earn the chance to go to the Texas State Student Council Convention, and they plan on bringing back the knowledge they gather from the event to better the school.
“That’s what’s fun about these things, getting to see and hear all the things from other schools so we can learn to improve our own school,” Jess said.
