Starting off the morning of Tuesday, March 18 with a parade by the drumline, Superintendent Danny Massey and the rest of the Education Foundation members carried a $7,500 check to Photography and Yearbook Teacher Lela Siegel. Siegel intends to use the grant to upgrade the cameras that her classes use to mirrorless cameras, which have the ability to take higher quality photos compared to the current cameras
“We are currently running on a class set of DSLR cameras that are over 10 years old,” Siegel said. “While these are great starter cameras for our program, technology is changing rapidly and the older models are beginning to have issues with focusing and reading sensors, and so on.”
Later, the collective Health Science teachers won a $5,954.99 grant, deciding to put the money towards a live action of a subject acting out the process of giving birth. The Health Science teachers were particularly encouraged to apply for funding to support initiatives such as technology integration.
Many of these teachers student were so surprised and excited for their teacher, and what they plan to do with the money to apply it to their education learning environment.
Many students witnessed these grants being handed out, feeling both proud and excited for what they will receive with the grants their teachers applied for, such as photography students earning new cameras.

“I was very happy for Mrs. Siegel, since she plans to put that money into better and professional cameras for all of us and her other photography classes,” senior Nathan Rodriguez said.
As for students within Health Science, they are prepared to learn demonstrations in-depth with the supplies that they will be receiving.
“When our teacher told us that she won a grand for our class I was just so happy for her, and I just couldn’t contain my excitement for all of them, I can’t wait for what is in store for the future of our class,” senior Abigail Rensberger said.
Overall, the Education Foundation has high hopes for what teachers will purchase with the grants that they have earned to improve their classes, and teachers are excited to have the ability to broaden their resources within the classroom.
