EASTON, MA — A driver was killed Wednesday evening when a work van caught fire in a crash on Turnpike Street in Easton, according to authorities. Police were called to the scene after a 911 report came in around 6:45 p.m. about the collision on the 600 block of the road, which runs along Route 138.
When officers arrived, they found the van fully engulfed in flames and a tractor-trailer with damage to its front end, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said. The van’s driver was the only person inside. That person was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Easton police responded to the crash after a caller reported the incident just before 7 p.m. Wednesday. The district attorney’s office said the scene was on the 600 block of Turnpike Street, a stretch that also carries Route 138 traffic through town.

The driver inside the van was the only occupant. Authorities have not yet released the person’s name, saying identification was still pending.
Tractor-trailer driver taken to hospital with minor injuries
The crash also involved a tractor-trailer, which sustained damage to its front end, according to officials. The truck’s driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
