After weeks of rigorous rehearsal, Brazoswood’s percussion group, along with featured schools, presented their work to parents and friends alike.
“The percussion concert was held to show parents and others in the audience our music, and to show how hard we have worked,” senior Andrea Negrete said. “We also played to spread the joy of listening to the music by playing it for the audience so that maybe they could also feel how cool it was to be in the moment.”
A handful of schools were featured within the percussion concert, such as Rasco, Clute, and Lake Jackson Intermediate. By allowing these young students to play at the concert, it gave them the opportunity to understand the environment that they will be playing in once they enter high school.
“This event helps prepare students for professional work environments by requiring them to participate in dress rehearsals, collaborate with professional sound, lighting, and video crews, and showcase the dedication they’ve put into their percussion studies throughout the year,” Percussion Director Jeremiah Jones said.
On top of teaching students about what being a percussionist in high school consists of, it also gave students of all ages the opportunity to showcase their skills and put on a performance for all to enjoy.
“I thought that my performance and the percussion’s performance was very well rehearsed,” Negrete said. “There were some mistakes, but we all went along and kept going, which is the best way a musician can save a performance.”
While the main focus of the concert was those who played instruments within the area of percussion, other students were featured, having been given the opportunity to show their skills on instruments such as the bass guitar, trombone, and trumpet.
“Mr. Jones asked me and a few other guys to play on a few charts to get a cool horn line effect,” Eisenhart said. “I felt that it was a really cool opportunity for us, and I am really looking forward to seeing what he wants us to play next year.”
Overall, the percussion concert not only entertained the audience in attendance, but it gave students the opportunity to adjust to a different environment when performing as well as the chance to show off their talents that took weeks to learn.
“The concert was a great success, with outstanding performances from all involved,” Jones said. “The audience responded enthusiastically, and the overall production maintained a highly professional standard. While there were a few minor areas for improvement, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to making next year’s event even better.”
